Destination Guide--Seattle Overview

Spring appears to have sprung, so to speak, here in Seattle this past week. The temperature is an unseasonable nearly 60 degrees Fahrenheit, the sun is out, and tourism season will soon be upon us.
That being the case, I would like to take a few minutes to do a destination overview of our fair city, just in case you might be contemplating a visit to us this season.
Seattle is variously known as the Emerald City and the Queen City of the Northwest. It was founded in the year of 1869, by members of the Denney party, and is named after the local chieftain Sealth (after first being called Duwamps). Seattle has been rated as one of the world's most liveable cities, and it takes only one visit here to discover why.
Upon arrival in the city, you will be amazed at the amount of green that you see in all directions. There are virgin forests not far outside the city limits, as well as vast amounts of greenbelt and parkland within the city itself. The city is also nearly an island, being surrounded by Puget Sound to the west, Lakes Union and Washington to the east, and any number of other smaller lakes within and without the city. Two mountain ranges can be seen up close and personal: The Olympics to the west, and the majestic Cascade range to the east, including Mt. Rainier--whose slopes can be seen on clear days from the city.
Locals and visitors alike can (and do) take advantage of the many outdoor activities available within the nearby areas. Hiking, fishing, boating, and sightseeing are but a few of the things that can be done in Seattle year-round. Additionally, there are parks and attractions sure to whet your appetite for more of what Seattle has to offer (more on that in upcoming posts). So, when you come, make sure to bring comfortable shoes and a layered outfit to match up with our somewhat changeable weather.
We look forward to seeing you here soon.
